Not a ton happened this week in ISM, just a lot of researching. However, I found several quotes I really liked doing my research. One example is “Most people can’t play soccer, or football at 70 or 80 years of age but they can sing. And they can play piano or some other instrument. Music is a gift you can give your child that will last their entire lives.” I had never really thought about this. Not just that music will last a person’s lifetime, but how rare that is. Most people can’t carry on with their hobbies, and I thought that’s pretty cool. Another one I liked was “carry on important traditions and bring joy to music lovers. For example, when their bands perform classical music, they keep the past alive, preserving cultural history.” This one was much deeper and more serious, but also a very interesting concept. I’ve always known that music is a very unique experience, but these are ideas I’d never thought of, and that makes music even more special to me. I also have my first mentor visit tomorrow, and I’m nervous. I’m very used to teaching large groups of teenagers, but this is different. I’m anxious that I won’t know what to do with middle schoolers, since it's a different age and learning environment than I'm used to. Nerves aside, I’m very excited to start.
