This week in ISM I started working on my contact list, which went much better than I thought it would. Obviously there are a lot of band directors, especially in this area, so I tried to find band directors I either knew from past years, or directors that I had heard of knew were good. I also looked through SASI’s (the music leadership company) staff, and found band directors from them who also have experience in music leadership (which is now on the back burner for me). I’m wondering if it would be better for me to have a mentor that I knew previously. I would definitely be more comfortable, and because of that I could probably learn more. But at the same time, if I pick a mentor I don’t know as well, I could have more real world experience, and gain more exposure. I also have the Business Symposium coming up soon, which I am excited for, but I really have no idea what it is. In my mind, I’m envisioning that it will almost be like a farmers market. There will be different tables set up of different companies for students to talk to, and possibly get contacts from. I know that I have interviews with random people, but I'm not sure what we do the rest of the day. I could be completely wrong but I guess I’ll find out.
