So the Winter Showcase is this week, but I’m actually not very nervous about it. I have my board and portfolio ready, I just don’t know what I’m going to say. I guess I’m kind of expecting people to read my board then ask questions. I’ll probably just have a basic “Hi my name is Alexis and I’m studying…” ready just in case. My board has a lot of words though. On one side, I have the main ideas of some of the articles I researched. (“Music Educators keep the Arts alive, Music is a different experience for everyone, Music is academic, physical, emotional and forever”) Since those are somewhat vague, I’m hoping people will ask about them. I also have statistics over why band kids are better than everyone else. (Ex. “The College Entrance Examination Board found that students involved in public school music programs scored 107 points higher on the SAT exam than students with no participation.”) I included those to show why music is important, and why EVERYONE should do it. I also have things like my quote, mission statement, and about me. Then I have my mentor biography and an example of a lesson plan. I’ll also have my portfolio open so people can flip through it. Right now I’m feeling pretty good about it, but we’ll see how I feel Wednesday night.
